New stock replacement bearing retainers from Quarter Master® are designed to improve the durability of the stock concentric slave cylinder found in a variety of 6-speed LS applications.

Made of durable steel, Quarter Master® Billet Bearing Retainers For LS Clutch Slave Cylinders are designed to be a direct replacement for the plastic bearing retainers found in stock clutches. The stock part in GM LS engine-equipped applications can deflect and misalign the retainer with the slave snout, causing the plastic bearing retainer to wear and fail. Since the Quarter Master® bearing retainers are built from a much stronger material, they are not nearly as prone to these issues, especially when used in high-heat applications. Two options are available – Part Number 7300030 is designed solely to replace the plastic bearing retainer, while Part Number 730043 also features an integral dust boot retainer. Quarter Master® Billet Bearing Retainers For LS Clutch Slave Cylinders are designed for late model LS applications including the C6 Corvette, Gen V Camaro, Cadillac CTS-V, Pontiac G8 and other vehicles utilizing a GM T6060 6-speed transmission and an FTE concentric slave cylinder. Not compatible with the C5 Corvette or Gen IV Camaro.

Quarter Master® LOLMDS Rookie Of The Year Battle Ends Early

What was a close-fought battle to start the year between a pair of Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year candidates on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) has now become a one man show starring Jonathan Davenport.

Over the past few seasons the LOLMDS has established itself as arguably the most potent touring Dirt Late Model series on the planet. One of the factors contributing to the tour's reputation is the diversity of drivers who follow the series. A strong collection of veterans chase the tour each season, and joining those veterans each year are a talented crop of rookies pursuing the Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year title.

The 2011 season saw a record field of four rookies stage a great battle for the coveted honor, and when the final checkered flag dropped on the season it was Batesville, AR, competitor Jared Landers who was crowned the Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year.

Throughout the winter months there was much debate and speculation about which drivers would chase the rookie title for the 2012 campaign. Just a matter of days before the season-opening 36th Annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, FL), the crop of rookies was unveiled. While the announced field may have only been half the size of the group in 2011, no one could deny that there was plenty of talent represented.

Blairsville, GA’s Jonathan Davenport, 28, and Austin Hubbard, 20, of Seaford, DE, each declared as candidates for the Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year award. Davenport brought a resume to the table that included multiple high-profile wins in the Super Late Model division, as well as a blistering end to the 2011 season, which saw him claim wins in many of the major end-of-the-year specials throughout the south. Hubbard had his own impressive list of accomplishments, which included the 2010 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year title, the 2011 Appalachian Mountain Speedweek title and several feature wins. Not only did both drivers bring impressive accolades to the table, but they also brought their fan pleasing, aggressive on-the-throttle driving styles.

The exciting duo first squared off during the 36th Annual Winternationals, and by the time the opening events were in the history books it was almost a dead heat in the rookie battle. Each driver had shown glimpses of brilliance with runner-up finishes, and it appeared that another classic rookie showdown was in store.

As the LOLMDS tour entered the months of March and April, however, Hubbard began battling engine issues and mechanical woes, while Davenport enjoyed some success.  By the time April drew to a close Davenport sat fifth in the overall standings, and held a commanding 200 point lead in the Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year battle over Hubbard, who had slipped to 11th in points.

As the tour entered the month of May, Davenport ran into some of his own mechanical issues, while Hubbard was able to record his season best finish on the tour of third at Hartford Motor Speedway (Hartford, MI). The next night at La Salle Speedway (La Salle, IL) he took home another top 10 and looked to possibly be building momentum. But as May drew to a close Hubbard ran into more mechanical problems and the team began gasping for air.

June stared slowly for Davenport, but it ended on a high note as he nailed down a pair of podium finishes to close the month at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, SC) and Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, VA). He continued to sit fifth in the standings, and held a 385 point advantage over Hubbard, who was enduring everything from more engine issues to hauler problems.

Two weeks later, following the LOLMDS event at Muskingum County Speedway (Zanesville, OH), Hubbard threw in the towel as he saw another engine hurt.

Hubbard issued a statement, saying, "I really have enjoyed running the Lucas Oil tour and will return to action with them on a part-time basis at some point. However, I'm done with points chasing this year. It's been a tough year, and sometimes you need to retreat from a battle and rebuild your army to win the war. The main goal at this point is to be prepared for the 2013 season. If an opportunity does not become available, I need to know that my family program is competitive."

With Hubbard pulling off the tour, Jonathan Davenport saw his sole challenger for the Quarter Master® Rookie of the Year title go by the wayside. Despite not having to worry about the competition any longer in the rookie battle, Davenport remains focused on performing well throughout remainder of the LOLMDS schedule.

"It's definitely a load off my mind to know that I have the rookie deal wrapped up, but I'm focused on winning races and getting the best possible finish in the overall tour standings,” Davenport said. “We have an awesome team here, and I want to give them the results that they deserve.”

COMP Cams® And Quarter Master® To Sponsor DART Corn Belt Clash Again In 2012

For the 2012 racing season, COMP Cams® and Quarter Master® have again signed on as contingency sponsors for the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series.

For the 2012 racing season, COMP Cams® and Quarter Master® have again signed on as contingency sponsors for the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series.
Despite 2012 marking only the fourth year of existence for the upper Midwest-based DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series, the tour is rapidly growing and emerging as one of the top regional tours in the nation. The series, which calls West Union, IA, home, was created in 2009 by Cam Granger to fill a void that was becoming glaringly obvious in his area. Open Dirt Late Model engine events were going by the wayside and were being replaced by races which allowed only spec engines. Granger and his cohorts saw a need to create a product that would prevent the extinction of open Dirt Late Model competition, and thus the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series was born.

Growth has definitely not been an issue for the tour. In its debut season in 2009  a mere five events were held, all in the state of Iowa, but for the 2012 docket the tour already boasts seventeen dates in six states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Missouri. Keith Foss of Winona, MN, won the inaugural title, but Mt. Vernon, IA's Chad Simpson has wreaked havoc on the tour for the past two years, claiming titles in 2010 and 2011. The rapid growth of the tour only goes to prove that there is an ever-growing demand among racers and fans for true, open Dirt Late Model racing.

For COMP Cams® and Quarter Master®, tours like the Corn Belt Clash are an important part of the motorsports puzzle. They allow the beauty of open, non-restricted competition to grow and prosper.

Vice President of Marketing for COMP Cams®, Chris Douglas, notes, "Competitors with tours like the Corn Belt Clash like to compete in an unrestricted, outlaw world, if you will. If you look back in history that's the type of rationale and motive that created motorsports as we know it today. As a company we can definitely relate to this driving force, and that's just one of the many reasons we are proud to be involved with this tour."

For the 2012 season, COMP Cams® and Quarter Master® have provided over $6,000 in total product certificates to be distributed to DART Corn Belt Clash competitors during the course of the year. In addition, both companies will be compiling various awards for the tour to present during its annual points banquet at the end of the season.

7.25″ Optimum-V Clutch Kits For Mitsubishi Evo X And DSM

The leading name in clutch technology releases 7.25″ Optimum-V kits specific to the Mitsubishi Evolution X and first generation DSM for high-performance street and race applications.

The leading name in clutch technology releases 7.25″ Optimum-V kits specific to the Mitsubishi Evolution X and first generation DSM for high-performance street and race applications.
Lake Zurich, IL – The leading name in clutch technology releases 7.25″ Optimum-V kits specific to the Mitsubishi Evolution X and first generation DSM for high-performance street and race applications.

Building upon the successful debut of the 7.25″ Optimum-V for the earlier Mitsubishi Evolution models, Quarter Master® immediately looked to fulfill the wishes of drivers of the Mitsubishi Evolution X and the early model DSM. Development focused on bringing the same tested-tough technology to drivers of all generations of performance-driven Mitsubishi.

Available in hardcore race and street versions, the re-buildable, modular, professional racing-derived 7.25″ 8-leg Optimum-V utilizes the latest gear-drive technology with .250″ thick rally friction material that allows for quicker, smoother shifting between gears, extends the life of the input shaft, and reduces the chatter upon engagement. The pressure plate and floater plate are slotted for optimum gas evacuation and superior cooling of the clutch unit. Street and race version flywheels share an integral ring gear, a first for the DSM model, meaning that owners will no longer face the inconvenience of sourcing and installing the ring gear onto the flywheel.

The street model uses a heavier flywheel to make day-to-day driving of the clutch unit easier. In addition, kits for the Mitsubishi Evolution X also include the ultra-reliable Universal Hydraulic Release Bearing and adapter to replace the stock unit. This will convert the troublesome pull-style actuator to a more reliable and smoother feeling push-type release bearing. All DSM models can use the stock radius-faced bearing assembly in those applications.

Quarter Master® 5.5” Optimum Ultra-V Clutch Kits

The leading name in clutch technology introduces lightweight 5.5″ Optimum Ultra-V Clutch Kits and Upgrade Kits for asphalt Super, Limited and Crate Late Models.

Lake Zurich, IL – The leading name in clutch technology introduces lightweight 5.5″ Optimum Ultra-V Clutch Kits and Upgrade Kits for asphalt Super, Limited and Crate Late Models.

The new 5.5″ Optimum Ultra-V Clutch from Quarter Master® is available in both two and three-disc systems. Specifically designed for the weight-conscience racer, this new clutch features significant advantages over those offered by other manufacturers, including lower overall weight and moment-of-inertia (MOI). These advantages are achieved by utilizing a two-piece aluminum pressure plate (fulcrum ring) in combination with a drilled steel floater plate, drilled steel intermediate floater plates, and an aluminum flywheel button that accepts the drilled steel floater plate as a friction surface. In addition, the revised and lightened one-piece chromoly ring gear adds to the overall weight reduction. The new design also greatly increases holding capacity. The three-disc Optimum Ultra-V is rated at over 1200 ft./lbs. of torque (two-disc rated at over 800 ft./lbs.). This is almost twice the holding capacity of rival models, making the two-disc Optimum Ultra-V capable of holding more power than the competition's three-disc unit. Conversion kits for racers currently using the existing 5.5″ Optimum-V Clutch Unit make the upgrade to the Optimum Ultra-V an easy process; both units use the same cover assembly. Complete upgrade kits include all the necessary components to change to the light-weight system at a cost-effective price.

COMP Cams® Topless 100 Coming Up in August

The 19th Annual COMP Cams® Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway is rapidly approaching as the South prepares for its only true crown jewel event.

The 19th Annual COMP Cams® Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway is rapidly approaching as the South prepares for its only true crown jewel event.
Memphis, TN − As the summer heat begins to reign supreme throughout the South, racers and fans know that it means the 19th Annual COMP Cams® Topless 100 is just around the corner. The mega-event is scheduled for August 18th-20th, 2011, at the picturesque Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas).

While many other areas of the country play host to "crown jewel" events each year, the Topless 100 is arguably the South’s only true elite event. While many insiders in the sport argue what does and doesn't qualify an event as a crown jewel, most agree that there are few events in the South that meet the criteria for the status. The Topless 100, however, definitely makes the cut. For the past eighteen years, the event, which was the brainchild of Batesville Motor Speedway general manager and promoter Mooney Starr, has been the biggest paying Dirt Late Model event in the South. With the big paydays each year come incredibly talented fields of cars at the 3/8 mile oval track, and over the years there have been some truly memorable moments.

The $40,000 first place check for the 100 lap event is no doubt a tasty incentive for any driver, but the prestige that goes with a COMP Cams® Topless 100 title is equally appetizing for drivers from the region.

Batesville, Arkansas driver Billy Moyer, Jr., has been part of several COMP Cams® Topless 100 victory celebrations before, but they have come with his dad, the legendary Billy Moyer, in victory lane.

"I've been to victory lane with Dad four times now over the years, and that's really cool," comments Moyer, Jr. "However, I want to know what it feels like to be the one lifting that trophy over my head at this event. I grew up going to this race, and dreaming of racing in it one day and winning it. The best drivers in the country are right here in my backyard that weekend, and it's my chance to be the best. I probably want that win more than any other. We just don't have many races of that magnitude in this area."

A fellow Batesville native got to do the unthinkable at the event in 2010, as Jared Landers killed two birds with one stone by getting his first Dirt Late Model win and his COMP Cams® Topless 100 victory at the same time.

"It was all so unbelievable. I grew up in Batesville so obviously I've been going to that track my whole life, and I've seen every COMP Cams® Topless 100,” states the 29-year-old Landers. “As a kid you dream of winning that race, but it just seems so impossible. To win that race last year, which was also my first Super Late Model win, was unreal. Everybody asked me when it finally hit me that I had won the Topless 100, and to be honest it was probably that next week, while I was looking at the trophy in my shop. It still seems so unreal."

At every stop, CPG technicians were on hand to answer questions, make recommendations, hand out literature, sell merchandise and just talk with fans and visitors. With approximately 1,200 long haulers and thousands of cars at every stop, it was a great week for gearheads and aftermarket enthusiasts. Quarter Master develops 2-disc 7.25" clutch with 8 integral steel legs for Mitsubishi Evo VIII & IX stock, strip, drift & road race cars
Lake Zurich, ILDriveline performance leader develops 2-disc Mitsubishi Evo Race Clutch for stock, strip racing, drifting and road racing applications.

Drawing on an extensive, race-winning heritage, Quarter Master® designed the all new 7.25" Mitsubishi Evo Race Clutch to perform well in a broad range of Evo VIII and IX racing platforms. The new clutch utilizes eight integral steel hardened legs to provide a much longer lifespan than one-piece aluminum covers where the floater and pressure plates have a tendency to wear into the drive legs. The 8-leg design also reduces stress on drive legs by 25 percent and creates a stiffer cover and smoother range on the diaphragm spring motion. A lower moment of inertia and gear drive friction design allow for quicker, smoother shifts. In addition, the gear drive clutch hub is located on the friction pack to enable easier transmission installation, much smoother and quicker shifting, improved input shaft wear and increased hub strength. Great for stock, strip, drift and road race applications, the 2-disc clutch is available in both 5-speed and 6-speed versions. Capable of handling up to 800 horsepower, the pull-to-push conversion clutch and hydraulic bearing kit provide dependable performance in shifting, consistent pedal feel and torque holding capacity. Not only is it easier and less expensive to maintain, the clutch is also fully rebuildable.

The 7.25" Mitsubishi Evo 8-Leg Race Clutch utilizes integral steel hardened legs to provide a much longer lifespan than one-piece aluminum covers where the floater and pressure plates have a tendency to wear into the drive legs.

The 7.25" Mitsubishi Evo 8-Leg Race Clutch from Quarter Master® can be used in stock, strip racing, drifting and road racing applications and is available in both 5-speed and 6-speed versions. Capable of handling up to 800 horsepower, the pull-to-push conversion clutch and hydraulic bearing kit provide dependable performance in shifting, consistent pedal feel and torque holding capacity.

The 3/16" spun steel, uniform construction shell with blue powder coating has been CNC-machined to tight tolerances, making installation a snap and providing increased life for the transmission, clutch splines and pilot bearings. The bottom of the bellhousing has a bolt-on cap that, when removed, allows easy inspection of the clutch and flywheel/flexplate. This open bottom design reduces overall weight without sacrificing safety or durability, and it makes installing a new transmission easier than ever. The bellhousing is finished with a blue powder coating that increases product lifespan and maintains a show-quality look. Additionally, the bellhousing works with the popular Quarter Master® Tri-Lite and Floating Hydraulic Race Bearings.

The Open Bottom Steel Bellhousing from Quarter Master® meets most rule requirements from Late Model and SportMod sanctioning bodies.

Founded in 1958, Quarter Master® has a long history of producing high performance, state-of-the-art driveline products that range from clutches to drive shafts to made-to-order products. Circle track racers take advantage of both the quality and variety of products that the company has to offer, and the results are indisputable.

Asphalt racers have been using Quarter Master® products for over 50 years. Just ask Quarter Master® customer Mike Stefanik from Wilbraham, Massachusetts, who has competed in nearly every division that NASCAR® has to offer and has accumulated over ten national championships to show for his efforts. Or talk to Curt Spaulding from Hartford, Michigan, who has used the driveline accessories to truly push the performance envelope. He set the 3/8 mile, asphalt speed record on September 19th, 2009 at Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, Michigan, by turning a blazing lap of 10.217 seconds at over 132 mph, which lowered the previous record by nearly half of a second.

Another asphalt circle track racer who has enjoyed success with Quarter Master® support is Birmingham, Alabama racer, Augie Grill. Grill, who comes from a family with deep racing roots, has etched his name in the history books as the winner of some of Asphalt Late Model racing´s top events. He was the 2007 and 2008 winner of the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, which is widely regarded as the top asphalt short track event in the nation, as well as collected multiple feature wins throughout the southeast.

Travis Irvington from Fullerton, California, also competes in the Asphalt Late Model division and has experienced great success with the aid of the driveline company. The former national champion go-kart racer made a lot of noise in the Asphalt Late Model division on the west coast in 2009. He picked up wins at tracks such as the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring and Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California. Irvington also raced into multiple top five finishes against stout fields of competitors.

While Quarter Master® has enjoyed a great deal of success on asphalt, the company has also experienced an equal amount of success with racers in the dirt track world. Five-time MARS Dirt Late Model champion Bill Frye from Greenbriar, Arkansas, has trusted the integrity of Quarter Master® products to power into championship form throughout his career. In addition to his national titles, Frye has also accumulated hundreds of feature wins across the country in both the Dirt Late Model and Dirt Open Wheel Modified ranks.

Veteran racer, Bart Hartman from Zanesville, Ohio, used Quarter Master® driveline components to win the most prestigious Dirt Late Model race of the year in 2009 when he picked up the coveted World 100 crown at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The former dirt track world champion picked up a total of seven wins in 2009, with the Pittsburgher 100 Championship also to his credit.

Brian Birkhofer from Muscatine, Iowa, set the Dirt Late Model world on fire in 2009 as he wreaked total havoc across the country by picking up wins in several national events. He also had success in several crown jewel events, including the annual Show Me 100 at West Plains Motor Speedway (West Plains, Missouri) and the Diamond Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri). And over the past few years Batesville, Arkansas, driver Jared Landers, has emerged onto the national scene in the Dirt Open Wheel Modified ranks. In 2009 the young driver found amazing success in the Winternationals at Volusia Speedway Park by winning an incredible 80% of the races. He backed up his 2009 performance by winning the $5,000 finale of the 2010 Winternationals. Both of these drivers proudly use Quarter Master® products in their racing efforts.

Terry Phillips from Springfield, Missouri, has been utilizing Quarter Master® products in his race cars for several years. Whether it´s in his Dirt Late Model or his Dirt Open Wheel Modified, Phillips is always at the front of the pack. He has accumulated national titles in both the MARS Dirt Late Model and the MLRA Dirt Late Model tours.

With over 50 years of experience in designing and producing the best performing driveline accessories in the world, Quarter Master® eagerly looks ahead to an even bigger and brighter future. The company plans to continue pushing the envelope for producing unmatched, high performance products for circle track racers, as well as making a big return to the drag racing world in the near future. It´s clear that if you want to ensure winning performance from your driveline products, you need to join the Quarter Master® team today!

Quarter Master® Starter Core Exchange Program

Driveline innovator introduces exchange program to maintain the integrity of the highest quality starters in the performance aftermarket

Even the most reliable products require periodic inspection and maintenance to ensure their continued service life. With that in mind, Quarter Master® has introduced its new Starter Core Exchange Program, specifically designed to protect customer investment in the highest-quality starters on the market. The program allows customers to send used Quarter Master® starters back to the company´s facility, where the starter´s core is then exchanged for a new one. With this new exchange program, customers are able to maintain the value of their Quarter Master® Ultra-Duty™ Starter for less than the cost of an inferior product.

To qualify for the Quarter Master® Starter Core Exchange program, all starters must be returned directly to the Quarter Master® facility (starters will not be accepted through the nation-wide dealer network). Upon receipt, the starter will first be inspected to verify that it is an original Quarter Master® Starter and not previously rebuilt using inferior, substandard components. In addition, the starter will be inspected for any potential crash and internal damage due to improper wiring. Any of these issues will make the starter ineligible for the exchange program.

Following inspection, the drive and nose from the existing starter are removed and assembled onto a hand-built starter. If it is determined that these parts require service, additional costs may be incurred beyond the standard exchange. When the final rebuild is completed, each starter is re-inspected and dyno-tested to verify that it meets the strict quality requirements of Quarter Master®. The entire procedure can be completed in a very short time, oftentimes within one day of receipt of the starter. Participation in this program will not only save time for the racer but also money. The cost of exchanging a Quarter Master® Reverse Rotation Ultra-Duty™ Starter is $175 plus shipping and handling, while the cost for a Quarter Master® Standard Rotation Ultra-Duty™ Starter is $150 plus shipping and handling.

Quarter Master® is known throughout the performance aftermarket for the quality and preparation put into every starter they manufacture. Using genuine Hitachi parts, every starter is blueprinted and individually hand-assembled. After assembly, each starter is then thoroughly dyno-tested to ensure proper performance.

Quarter Master® Magnesium Reverse-Mount Starter Bellhousing

State-of-the-art redesign using the latest FEA technology yields bellhousings that delivers more strength for racers using Jerico and T-10 style transmissions

Well known for manufacturing state-of-the-art racing clutches and driveline components, Quarter Master® has recently developed an innovative Magnesium Bellhousing for Reverse-Mount Starters. This all-new unit replaces the previous design that has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in multiple racing venues.

Designed using the latest FEA software, the ribbed, clam-shell shape is 30% stiffer than its predecessor and reduces stress in critical points of the bellhousing with no addition to the overall weight. This design also greatly reduces clutch spline wear, eliminates flexing, improves clutch alignment and decreases wear on internal transmission components.

In addition, this new design offers superior ground clearance and ergonomics, which allow for increased clearance for various header configurations. It also enables the use of smaller diameter clutch assemblies, and thus provides the lowest moment of inertia available over larger, stock-type units. Other significant improvements include ultra-precise CNC-machining and stiffening ribs on the top of the bellhousing for increased durability.

The Quarter Master® Magnesium Reverse-Mount Starter Bellhousing is available for Chevy, Ford, and Dodge applications utilizing Jerico-type and T-10 style transmissions.

This weight reduction is accomplished with no sacrifice in strength, as the 3.0" diameter Quarter Master® Carbon Fiber Driveshaft was torque tested at over 4000 ft./lbs., making it the most rugged and durable driveshaft on the market. The directionally orientated space-grade carbon maximizes torsional strength both radially and laterally, which equates to the ability to perform under the most extreme conditions in the highest operating RPM range.

Finished with a smooth, non-load bearing composite outer layer and lightweight, black-anodized, billet aluminum ends using standard 1310 U-joints, the Quarter Master® Carbon Fiber Driveshaft is not only the strongest, lightest and most durable driveshaft available for Dirt Late Models but is also the best looking. The driveshaft is also available in white for those series, sanctioning bodies and tracks that require a white driveshaft.
